Ever since I finished watching Sword and Fairy 1, I’ve been eager to create some fan art of my favourite couple, Li Xiaoyao and Zhao Ling’er! Today, I’m excited to share these adorable Sword and Fairy Chibi Dolls I’ve been working on for the past few weeks. It took many hours to complete, and I hope you enjoy them! :D I used numerous reference images from Sword and Fairy 1, constantly redrawing until I was happy with every detail. I was honestly amazed by how many unique costumes Li Xiaoyao and Zhao Ling’er wear throughout the series! While I haven’t included all of their outfits, I focused on the ones that stood out the most to me. Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more Sword and Fairy fan art in the future! ;)

Li Xiaoyao (played by He Yu)
Li Xiaoyao’s hairstyle is usually a high ponytail, except in episode 1, where it’s styled in a messy bun. By the end of the series, his fringe is slicked back, giving him a more mature look. Throughout the show, he carries a small side bag, but one accessory that’s always with him is the strap for his sword. I also noticed that he’s still carrying the same blue bag his Aunty packed for him at the start of his journey :) (You can spot it in the bright blue outfit down below).
Zhao Ling’er (played by Yang Yutong)
Ling’er has so many distinctive outfits, each one more elegant and flowy than the last! She often carries small bags and pouches that add a lovely touch to her look. Her hairstyle stays mostly the same throughout the series, with only slight changes in ribbon colour and hair accessories. The one major shift happens after the collapse of the Demon Locking Tower. Her hair takes on a slightly more mature style, but she’s still wearing her signature hair tie at the back :)

I like to think the costume designers purposely made Xiaoyao and Ling’er’s outfits complementary, because they always seem to be matching.

Corpse demon arc (ep 7-12)
Female thief arc – Yangzhou (ep 12-16)
Fireworks and revolving scenic lanterns – Yangzhou (ep 16-19)

Peach Blossom Village arc (ep 22-26)
Demon Locking Tower arc – Mt Shu (ep 33)
Summon rain & the tragic ending – Nanzhao (ep 39-40)
