A little about me

Hi I’m Chibi Jennifer, an Australian-born Chinese fan and the creator of this fansite :) I played the DOS version of “Pal” aka “The Legend of Sword and Fairy” (XianJian Qi Xia Zhuan) when I was little and it easily became one of my favourite RPGs of all time.

Despite my Chinese not being that great, it was enough of me to play the game and understand what’s going on! I replayed the game multiple times, at one point maxing out all characters hoping somehow it would unlock a hidden ending (It didn’t XD). Fast forward to end of 2005, during a trip to China, my sister and I found a DVD of the live-action adaptation “Chinese Paladin” starring Hu Ge and Liu Yifei on DVD :O Of course, I bought it and we spent many hours binge watching the entire series. I was hooked.

History of this fansite

Finding English websites devoted to “PAL” was impossible, as it simply did not exist… and so I decided to fill the niche and create a fanlisting/fansite for my favourite couple. I loved Li Xiaoyao and Zhao Ling’er together in both the game and television adaptation, so after countless hours of love and dedication, [Fairy and Swordsman] was born in 2006.

Why the name ‘Fairy and Swordsman?’

Ling’er is a descendant of the goddess Nuwa, often referred to as a “Fairy”, and Xiaoyao is most known for his swordsmanship. The literal translation of “Xian Jian” is fairy sword, so I think this title is very much suited to this lovely couple!

Over time, we expanded to cover general Chinese Paladin news for the games and drama as well as news on Liu YiFei and Hu Ge. Our Xian Jian English Forum is a place where fans from all over the world can meet and connect.

Chinese Paladin 3: Undying Love

In 2010, after watching Chinese Paladin 3 TV drama (starring Hu Ge, Wallace Huo, Yang Mi, Liu Shishi and Tang Yan), I created a fansite for Xu Changqing & Zixuan. I was pretty obsessed with their chemistry on screen too!

Domain name: chinesepaladin.org

On 3 May 2010, I purchased and registered the domain name chinesepaladin.org which hosted all my Xian Jian related sites including the forum.

On May 2017 after 7 years, I’ve had to let the domain name chinesepaladin.org expire, as I was no longer actively updating this website. Unfortunately, someone jumped at the opportunity and claimed the domain name for themselves. What’s worse is THEY STOLE ALL OUR CONTENT (likely through site scraping) :( All my hard work was basically copy and pasted word for word on their website, which really hurt our SERP score (how we rank and show up on Google search engines). I was utterly devastated (still kinda hurt to be honest). I’ve poured so much time and dedication into creating this website and now there’s a fake copy out there, stealing visits from this site. I hope karma will come back to bite him/her one day.

Chinese Paladin English forum

Our Chinese Paladin English forum had been running for many years. Unfortunately I’ve come across many spam issues with the forum and was unable to activate new accounts, because I was literally getting 1000s of spambot registrations a day *sigh*. I also experienced some technical difficulties upgrading the phpBB platform and now the forum is completely broken and unaccessible. I’ve had to let the forum retire as a result :(

Resurgence: Sword and Fairy 1

With the recent release of 2024 remake “Sword and Fairy 1” live-action adaptation, I’ve started updating this site again! I gave it a brand new design and also created a Facebook Group for fans to discuss the new show :D Please join if you’re a fan!

Credits and special thanks

A special thanks to K for TVB for helping me promote this fanlisting since its establishment in 2006. It’s always hard starting out and she helped me even though she wasn’t a fan of Zhao Ling’er and Li Xiaoyao couple (She prefers Lin Yueru x Li Xiaoyao). Seeing the support and love you had for this couple really kept me motivated to update this site with lots of fresh content.
