Good Bye ‘Xian Jian Fan Club’ (Chinese Paladin English Forum)

Another sad news to share with everyone. After many years running ‘Xian Jian Fan Club‘ the only English forum dedicated to Chinese Paladin/XianJian QiXia Zhuan series, the forum has been closed down for good.

Chinese Paladin English forum - XianJian Fan Club

While the forum has been quite inactive for years, many fond memories were shared with the tight-knit community that was built. It was so exciting meeting other like-minded PAL fans, primarily the English speaking audience from all over the world and sharing our love for this classic RPG and/or television series. Thank you for the memories.

Behind the scenes, I struggled with a lot of technical issues running the phpBB forum over the years. Several years ago, the forum ran into spam bot issues. Everyday I would literally get 100s of new registrations with spammy fake accounts, who littered the entire forum with mass amounts of spam. The anti-spam functionality was frankly not working, and it was getting out of control. I had to restrict new members, and had asked visitors to manually send me an email to get their account activated. As you can imagine, this was a huge barrier to getting new members… though we did get a few during this time, it was not sustainable.

The forum was later “upgraded” but I also ran into issues there. I was hoping an upgrade would fix our current problems but it didn’t. It also brought upon new problems for me, and I was unable to really update the forum (without running into tons of errors). All of this frustration combined with moving servers a couple of times had lead me to run a fresh new install of the forum. It end up breaking completely, and I was not able to retrieve our old databases…. And so, I have decided to close it down. I do regret not saving all our popular posts, and resources like game link downloads and resources though. If there is enough interest in the future, maybe I can put together a new post on this website.

Anyway, I just want to say thank you to those who stuck around, who helped contribute to the community. It started back in 2006… that’s almost 15 years ago!

I am also considering closing down our Twitter and Facebook account.. but whatever happens, this website will still be around. So feel free to reach out! Drop a comment or simply say hi :)

Seeing the entire series available on Steam made me reminisce so I decided to drop by. I’m sad to see the forum is gone, but that’s just life. Thank you so much for everything you did for the site and for the fans around the world. Thanks for all the memories! I wish you all the best. Take care.

    1. Hi Kenshin,
Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving such a kind a message! Great to hear from you and take care too :)

Thinking back it’s hard to even believe those days actually happened where so many English speaking fans would come to I suppose the ONLY English site available at the time to discuss ONE specific TV drama. And it was all made possible thanks to you dear Jen.

I’m by no means a sentimental person at all but Sword and Fairy 1 is the very first PC game I’ve played back in 1997 so it will always take up a special place in my heart even though I’ve never played past XJ2 when it’s clear XJ3 and on have nothing to do with the original anymore and now the SEVENTH installment is release it’s hard to believe they can keep this franchise going for this long.

All is to say I’m very grateful to have been able to be a part of this little nook of the internet and none of it would’ve been possible without a far more dedicated fan such as yourself. I’m going to be bold here and ask what I should have asked years ago for a way to remain contact with you Jen, if you’re willing could you send me an email via the email I provided (required not published) from this reply. If for whatever reason you as the webmaster can’t see it please let me know.

    1. Hey Lightbrand!
Thanks again for dropping by and leaving these kind comments! It all seems like a distant memory, how time flies!! When I started this website and forum I was still a university student..and it’s been 16 years. Getting close to 2 decades! Are you planning to watch the new remake of the 2005 drama when it comes out? XD

I feel like it won’t be the same with a different cast… but maybe I will for the nostalgia. We’ll see!

Happy to see people still come here. The forum is gone, but we ( the fans ) are still here. We can still come together in a social media or something to talk or chat.

  4. Hey John, thanks again for dropping by and visiting, even though we’re not really active anymore. I just can’t bare to see this website go after so many years so it’s more like an archive than an updated source.

  5. Hey Jennifer,

Just dropping by to say hi! Hope you are doing well all these years. Time flew by so fast. There were some good memories back then! I will always appreciate your effort setting up an English forum.

    1. Hi Ric!
Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment :D I hope you are doing well as well!
Are you thinking of watching the remake of Chinese Paladin 1?

      1. Hey Jennifer, I don’t follow Chinese Paladin news lately so I don’t even know when they are showing it. If I find it on YouTube I will have a look!
